climate control replacement

Hello all. It's a gorgeous day here and probably one of the last nice
days of the year so I am taking advantage of it and really going to town
on the little things wrong with my car.

1. Driver seat heater does not work
2. Passenger power seat just stopped working 2 days ago.
3. rear defrost does not work
4. climate control does not work properly
5. major cleaning and lubing, etc

I figured out that the problem with the seat heater is somewhere in the
wiring between the switch and the relay. I swapped the driver side
switch with the passenger one. Passenger side still works, drivers side
still doesn't. OK the switch is good. Swapped the driver side relay for
the passenger side relay. Neither one works. Hmmmmm..... OK driver side
relay is toast (opened it up and couldn't find anything wrong but the
tests indicate it must be bad), but when I put the good relay from the
passenger side, into the driver side slot, it still doesn't work. So I
figure I have both a bad relay and bad wiring somewhere. Any ideas
where the wiring could go bad?

I took the climate control unit out of the dash and noted that it is not
original, it has auto wrecker markings on it and is labeled 87 5000
turbo. NOW, I know that starting in (late?) 1986, the climate control
unit got some sort of diagnostic feature built into it. The date of
manufacture on my car is 9/85. Do you see the problem? I suspect this
is why my climate control and rear defrost don't work properly -
internal wiring on the climate control may be different. Can anybody
confirm that the 87 unit either will or won't work in my 86 5K?

As always, thanks for the help, gang

Regards
