2.2 5cyl. High RPM vaccume pump

Hey guys - I have the proceedure for removing the rod from the high-rpm 
vaccume pump on my GT, since it's making a lot of noise.  My mechanic says 
that it makes no difference.  However, since the car is subjected to 
high-rpms on a fairly regular basis,  and in some high rpm situations that 
car is under extremely hard braking, I don't want to lose any breaking 
ability.  Make sense?

Anyone know difinitivly if it makes a difference (other than sound)
