"PAYNTERS OFF TO FINAL RALLY OF SEASON"
Brothers John and Clarke Paynter head to Bancroft Ontario this weekend for
the final event in the 1999 Subaru Canadian Rally Championship. The Rally of
the Tall Pines is a road rally consisting of eleven special stages covering a
total distance of four-hundred and forty kilometers.
"This is the last event of the season and our goal is to have eight finishes
out of eight starts for the year," says team driver, John. "We had some
mechanical problems last year on this event suffering a broken oil plug when
we hit a large rock and were unable to finish. This year, we want to finish."
Performance rallies are tests of both the car and of the team, requiring
navigational skill and expert driving ability. Preparation is key, as Clarke
points out, "this rally is one of the most interesting with mixed weather and
road conditions. We will have six different types of tires with us to ensure
safety and performance."
The team will run in their 1992 Subaru Legacy in the Production GT class
along with forty-three other competitors from all over North America. They
are currently in third place in Production GT and fourth overall in the
Canadian series. Televised highlights from the Tall Pines will be aired on
December 18.
