RE: Removing Air Filter?

The main reason I bought my Bentley was so that I would get instructions as
to how to change the air filter. The only thing my Bentley says under
removal and replacement of an air filter is to contact an authorized Audi
repair shop. They weren't kidding. I have an '88 90q10v. It took me about
2 1/2 hours to do this on my own. Actually, the last 20 or 30 minutes I had
a little help. When I finally got it back together I was surprised it ran.
There may be an easier way to do it, and I'm sure the professionals can get
this all done in less than 30 minutes. I basically had to take off or
loosen everything that came in contact with the rubber housing that sits on
top of the air filter and connects to the metal part of the intake manifold.
I then lifted it up with both hands while my neighbor carefully guided the
K&N into place.

Unless fellow listers can provide you and me with an easier way to do this,
I am going to pay someone to do this the next time. It wasn't worth it.
Until I tried doing this filter change, I thought the one in my Miata was
difficult.

Subject: Removing Air Filter?

How does one go about removing the air filter in an 80 4 cylinder? I
believe that the process for the 80/90 5 cylinder (except 20v) is very
similar. I can't find it in the Bentley and I would like to clean my K&N
filter that my shop installed 20,000 miles ago. I live on a dirt road and I
was in VT. all last year so I assume the filter must be full of junk. I
heard that removing the filter is a real pain, removal of the headlight is
required?

Thanks!
