Re:power windows

Re-cabling the power window regulator was successful, but not easy or
straightforward. It's one continuous piece of cable that goes from the
spool
on the regulator motor, over the top rail pulley, connects to the trolley
mechanism,
through the lower pulley and back to the spool. The original connection to
the
trolley is via a stop that is crimped to the cable and pressed into a
recess in
the trolley. I tried several methods of attaching it, which failed. My
final solution
was to drill and tap 1/4-20 holes at an angle, insert studs, then cut
part-way through
the studs to create a slot for the cable, then tighten down nuts, grind
them down so
they don't rub against the inside of the rail and center-punch them so they
don't
back out. So far, so good, but all that tinkering took me a day and a
half. When
I first posted, someone sent me email saying he had a unit for $50. If you
calculate $/hr, that's not a bad tradeoff.

You know, they make that bicycle cable Teflon coated.
