WTB quattro, etc (some torsen content)
Sorry for repost, but forgot to change subject and having trouble posting.
I am asking for your help as I have been asked to help a friend of mine
who is looking to replace his winter car (84 4kq) which he gave to his dad
for a winter car.
He is only looking at quattro's and the car will only have snow tires as
it
will only be driven in the winter.
He knows of an 90 200tq (torsen content) with 200k miles for a bit over
$4,000. My opinion is that this car is a bit high mileage and likely need
more in maintance than would be best for him (as well as the list mentioned
concern for timing belts that sit for extended periods of time as this car
will).
He has asked me to look at a 90 90 quattro for $5000 (I think) but I have
no
other info and will see the car tomorrow. I think this car would be a
better buy as I am considering reliability to be a major selection factor.
He has also said that while he really liked his 4kq anything with quattro
would be ok.
Money is not a problem but he does not want to spend too much for a car
that will only be driven a few months a year.
A few months ago I saw mention of an 84 4kq with under 100k miles for
$2500
and something like this would be worth traveling for.
As I will likely be doing the maintance for him and I know 4kq's pretty
well (as well as think they are the best car in the world for the money) I
am hoping to possibly find as good of condition as possible.
If anyone knows of a good car that would fit his needs or any opinion
that
may help please let me know.
You can even just send me a mail telling me "I know not of what I speek" if
it makes you feel better (you know who you are).
For my help I will be asking to drive the TT he is planning on buying :)
Last Saturday I went out to a local ice skating rink which was running
thier go-carts on, what a blast, rear wheel drive and lots of sideways. I
was sort of wishing I could have a Q system so I could drive around
everybody but as it was, nobody had an advantage due to car and there was
no
big boxy ones so you could see around them (SUV flame request).
This Thursday they are allowing M/C's (that is motorcycle not a turbo
Audi) to run on the ice with purpous built screws in the tires. The M/C
shop tells me that the traction is better than dirt and that the hardest
thing is getting the nerve to push it way beyond where common sence would
tell you that you were going down.
I just gotta go try this.
