Final Word Fuel Pump Brand
Well, it all worked out for the best I believe...
I bought the "Master Brand" fuel pump for my 5k from Advance Auto for $190.
(I figured if it looked crappy, I would just keep it in my trunk on my
long trip and have it if mine failed, being able to return it and buy a
good one later).
BUT, INSIDE THE "MASTER" BOX, is a brand new Bosch fuel pump. So, I got
the Bosch afterall, and it was the cheapest price in town (no need for
shipping), immediately available, and, best of all, a LIFETIME WARRANTY.
[William P. Magliocco Wins the prize-- he guessed it might be a Bosch in
there!!!]
So, there have been comments about the Bosch made in Czech quality, but I
feel most comfortable with the "Bosch" name. I don't think there can be
much difference in quality between the German plant and the Czech plant--
especially from a company like Bosch, and a high safety item like a fuel
pump. And, althought I don't want to do the labor twice, it's hard to
argue with a Lifetime Warranty..
For those of you whose went noisy soon after replacing-- did you change the
filter??... I don't know what the scoop really is with that tank lining--
I'll check mine out when I get in there-- if there is not crap built up on
my existing screen, I'll definitely leave mine on.. but I know someone said
that there is an Audi TSB saying to remove the screen... But I don't want
to void my lifetime warranty.... :)
Final word is:
both Autozone and Advance sell the "Master" pump for the audi 5k for about
$190, and I bet all of them are Bosch pumps in there, with a lifetime
warranty...
