A half-gallon of methanol in 18 gallons of gasoline might be overkill, but it won't hurt. I've used it in greater amounts. I got into trouble only because I raised the fuel vapor pressure to the point that my Chebby van (of sainted memory) got a bad case of vapor lock. Ain't gonna happen in winter, particularly with a tank-mounted electric pump. 

Your suggestion to use gasoline antifreeze would no doubt work as well.
