1985 Model Year - notes to Wiring Diagram 17
- The main diagram does not identify the pin assignments for the rpm sender (G28) and timing position sender (G4). These are 3-2-1 in both cases, left to right. The diagram also suggests that the shield connection - the leftmost in each case - is connected to the sender. This is not the case - pin 3 should be open-circuit to both pins 1 and 2.
- The main diagram shows F25 in track 50 as "normally open". This is incorrect - it is "normally closed" and opened at full throttle to de-energise N54, the full load enrichment solenoid.
- The main diagram has the connections to terminals 58 and 58L transposed in tracks 68 & 69.
- The main diagram shows K13 incorrectly in track 113. This warning light is in the digital dashboard - the connection should go to T35/24.
- The main diagram does not identify power to L1/L13 - left main beam. Fuse 9 is missing from track 105. This causes further complications - one track is erroneously not peeled off the page carry-over and subsequent tracks taken down are one out. Take special care with Fuse 12 (Stephen) - check wire colours arriving in lower diagrams. The tables here have been corrected.
- The main diagram shows a blue/yellow wire in track 33 from F60 (throttle body idle switch) to the ECU. This wire is actually brown/yellow.
- The main diagram omits fuse 3 - 25A - from track 104. The diagram shows the brake lights and horn as unfused. The circuit is shown correctly in Diagram 18, the relevant ABS diagram.
- The ABS diagram contains an explosion of pure fantasy unparalleled in the rest of the diagrams. The ur-quattro's ABS system is three-channel - the front wheels are controlled individually, and the rear wheels are controlled as a single logical entity. Yet Diagram 18 defines control valves for rear right, rear left and front right.
- The voice synthesiser diagram is missing an important note - connectors T3a and T3b should NOT be connected together in a vehicle with the voice synthesiser fitted. Doing so causes spurious and persistent false warnings about the brake system.
- The function of J67 - the diode pack - is not well described in tracks 63/64. See tracks 8/9 in diagram 19.
- Fuse 12 (track 53) is incorrectly shown as connected to rail 31 - this is ludicrous because that's a chassis ground. It should be shown connected to rail X, directly from the ignition switch.
- The symbols U1 and R in tracks 8 and 22 of Diagram 19 are reversed. A handwritten correction was made to the diagrams before they were scanned in.
- Separate notes apply to the autocheck unit with voice synthesiser.
