My WR quattro box does the same. I have got used to it and use it to remind 
me to take it easy until warmed up! It would be wise to make sure you have 
enough oil in there regardless of  whether you intend to change it.

1986 Audi 4 door Quattro with 282,000km.

In cold weather the gear shift lever is hard to pull into 2nd gear, when 
rolling at 10km/hr the gear shift lever hard to put into 1st gear, putting 
into 2nd gear will work but little vibration because Tacho shows < 1200rpm. 
When running for 15 minutes no problem with shifting, never problem shifting 
into any other gear at any temperature.
Would change of 80/90 transmission oil help to shift smoothly?
