Last spring, the cat on my father's '82 Coupe went kaputt. Most of the
interior honey-combing was loose and rattling around. Well, he just took
the cat off the car, dumped out all the loose material, and put it back on.
He took the car to be tested about 2 months ago, and absolutely crushed
my '85 GT in emissions. The FL limit on HC production is something like
225 ppm (don't quote me on that :-), and his test resulted in under 10 ppm
(not 100, 10!). My car comes in around 100 ppm. He was blown away, because
he expected to come in a lot closer to the limit (his car ran that cleanly
before the cat went, so I guess enough catalyst is still there to
handle the load).
Just another story of one of the many > 300k Audi's cruisin' the streets.
