      dave, I'm sure others will reply with add'l info, but a few items that
I look at come to mind....

exhaust condition-a new cat-back system is about $300.
struts-a car with 100k is probably in need of struts/bearings.
rear tie rods- an expensive dealer-only part.

General advice would be too check the blue book value of these cars for your
locale. The dealer's price sounds about $500 high to me, but then I'm in
NH.....

If you're in the market for a quattro and don't do your own maintenance, a
$45 pre-purchase inspection from an independant Audi garage is great
insurance! 

I certainly don't mean to discourage you from a prospective purchase, I love
my 4000qs! Hope this helps.
