Can't resist a comment about the Germans on this one - I was a passenger in a 
Mercedes flagship back in the early 1980s when a truck pulled out on the 
Autobahn and forced the driver to brake VERY hard indeed - clouds of blue 
smoke, etc.

Without any animosity or anger whatever, he sued the truck company the next day 
for the cost of new tyres.  And won - the case wasn't even contested.
