Re: Need help with radio in 5KT
Piyush,
Your '82 5KT radio should have a standard DIN mount. The radio has a
spring clip on each side and a rubber knob on the back that fits in a
bracket. If you can get your hand behind it you should just be able
to push it out. You may have to unplug some of the wires before you
can get it out all of the way. I don't think Audi installed JVC
units. It is probably an after market unit and it is unlikely that
the mounting style is different.
The easy removal of radios in cars with DIN mounting was in part
responsible for the rampant radio theft in the early and mid 80's. I
was lucky that it never happened to me. I had a roommate who had a
1985 Coupe which required the unobtainium removal tool. His car was
parked next to mine when someone broke into it and removed just the
knobs from his radio. The dealer had a box of odd radio parts and
gave him what he needed.
