Regarding some random model/nomenclature questions......
  
The Quantum Synchro was marketed in the USA as a wagon only.
Product planning wanted to clearly differentiate it from the Audi
4000 Quattro given the large amount of shared technology and
componentry underneath.
  
The Audi 5000 CD was the diesel version of the newer generation
Audi 5000 C3 model, sold only in Canada.  This car was unique to
Canada in North American markets due to the large price differential
between diesel and petrol in Canada.   This differential still
exists today, and VW Canada traditionally sells over 20% of its
products as diesels. In Quebec, the number is closer to 40%.
  
The 5000 CD is a very rare animal, it was only sold in 1984 in
Canada.

PS - The Canadians called all their 5000 wagons AVANTS, the
Americans did not. AVANT badges are on all Canadian 5000 wagons as a
result.
