Re: a MINOR tqc problem...

The fast idle could be a problem with the auxiliary air regulator on the
back of the engine. This device is supposed to increase the idle speed
when the engine is cold. After a few years, they typically stick inside
and stop working at all. When this happens, the idle is sometimes turned
up to make it idle OK when cold. If this is the case, it will idle too
high once it warms up.

No ideas on the pulsing. I assume you aren't seeing the infamous 4000 rpm
cutoff, which will cause the engine to die totally around 4000 rpm, under
load or not, and then operate fine once rpms have dropped. Could this be
what you're getting? Let us know, because if it is there are a bunch of
things that can cause it.
