Re: 1984 UR-Q
Raggi,
The TQC's are great cars! Everyone here knows that. But, some of us a
lso know that they are even more tempermental than the normal Audi Quattros (li
ke my 5000TQ), and some of us just can't afford that extra hastle. But, if you
know what to expect (or the worst to expect) and feel you can handle it, then I
highly suggest the TQC! Especially a euro model! That car sounds sweet. But,
it also sounds like it has a few headaches. On your transmission question: it
is actually reccomended to use a 4000 tranny! When people modify those suckers
and drop a 20V engine in it, they always do the 4000 tranny swap as well. It's
one of the tricks of the trade. And, a rebuilt 4000 tranny shouldn't be to har
d to find or expensive.
Also, what others have said is entirely true. Just because you go to a
n Audi dealer, doesn't mean they're gonna have the first clue on how to work on
that car (or have even seen one before). I would talk to mechanics, or find a
specialty shop that works on them regularly for customers. Have them look thro
ugh the car thoroughly and tell you where it's weaknesses are and what needs to
be replaced immediately or soon. This will also give you some grounds for barg
aning on the price. Well, I hope I've answered a few questions for you, and go
od luck. I hope it works out for you. And one more thing.....trust your insti
ncts on this one. I think we all bought our Quattros on impulse!
