I have used TriFlow spray lube on my 87 5k roof. I sprayed the tracks and
mechanism, then wiped up the dirt/old lube, then lightly resprayed. Immediately
it opened/closed faster. Do this first (something I failed to test) spray some
TRIFLOW on/in a styrofoam cup. If the cup disolves at all (1hr) don't use it,
any spray that does eat the cup may harm rubber parts in the area.

Is the foam dry and crumbling or did the glue let go. If its just the glue;
prep the hood with 3M adhesive remover (Red and white can- wont take off
paint). Mask for over spray and use 3M spray 66 Spray contact adhesive ( check
the No. with 3M) apply to both insulation and hood. If the insulation is
crumbling, get some new foam and cut it yourself (J.C. Whitney?)

On bad stains try Westly's Tire Bleach. Tough stuff. Get it all off afterwards
with water and sponge.

I've used CRC Anti-squeal stuff (red tooth paste like stuff) on the last 5 pad
jobs I have done and not had any squeals (average 30K miles each). I put the
stuff on the night before I do the job, it is very dry (not per directions).

Good luck, "the other Ian".
