soldered chip

I recently purchased an S4 and found it had a TAP chip in it.  Based on the
generally negative comments from several people on this list, I decided to
remove the chip and put the factory chip back in.  I took it to the local Audi
dealer and they said the chip was soldered in and and they didn't have the
equipment or knowledge to switch chips.  Is this chip normally soldered in?  Is
my only option to send the entire board back to TAP to get the factory chip
replaced?
