re: Hakka 10s
I've used both studded and non-studded tires...currently run Hakka 10s on
all corners on both my cars - Audi 200T, Volvo 745T, and would *not* stud
them...
Here's why:
The Hakkas are *great* snow tires in most inclement conditions...Studs,
OTOH, will help you only on ice, which here in New England isn't that
often. If the going gets really bad, I pull out a set of radial tire chains
and throw them over the Hakkas. Takes about 10 minutes to put them on, and
even my Volvo can run with the fourbyes in the deep stuff...
In all other conditions, studs are *terrible*. You'll slide all over the
place in the wet, wail like a banshee in the dry, and lose them as you go.
Also, they may be better on ice than non-studded tires...but not that much
better.
So, unless you spend a lot of time on ice, I'd stay away from studs. You
won't be happy with them 90% of the time...
Oh, and WRT hidden detectors...some cops now are using detector
detectors...so even if they don't see them, they may know you have one...
YMMV,
