vacuum leaks?

But of course what this thread was about was vacuum leaks and the "oil cap"
test.  So I'm out there Saturday night fooling around with my engine.  I
replaced a lot of small and medium fabric covered vacuum hose with new, did
this make a difference?  Seemed to.  Advanced the dist a few degrees (I
don't know what I'm doing..) and readjusted the idle.

Took off the oil cap, the freq. valve pauses, and readjusts each time I
remove or replace it.  So I get curious... remove oil filler cap - place
hand over hole in cam cover - *no* perceptible vacuum at this location at
all...

Now I'm really confused, but more experimentation will follow!
