Now that the seat is apart...(heater)
Thanks to posts by J. Zwahlen, I. Kessel, and S. Siblock (sorry if I've
forgotten anyone), regarding seat heater repairs, I tackled mine today.
Sorry if this is repetitious, but its my first time through this, and my
electrical troubleshooting skills are not great.
I've got the innards of the seat cushion out with the heater element laying
on top. I recall feeling a hot spot on my butt just before the heater
stopped working (2 years ago), which is why I suspected the problem there to
begin with. I found a small burned area on the foam under the heater wiring
and figured that's where the problem was. After exposing the blue wire, near
the burn in the foam, I found no break or discoloration on the wire. So, I
decided to cut out a small piece of the wire in case it was broken under the
insulation. The bare wires DO solder well.
Near the back of the seat, there are 4 wires soldered in a row, to the
heating element. Does anyone know or recall resistance readings for these. I
get a 10 ohm reading on the 2 innermost wires, no reading on any other
combination. On the backrest I get a zero ohm reading.
I somehow get the feeling I haven't fixed anything.
Any ideas on how to test this before I reinstall? Thanks!!!
