Well, I've had the pleasure of driving an '86 4K 5-sp and an '87 4K auto (Dad's),
both non-Q. I can tell you with complete conviction that the slushbox
absolutely SUCKED. I totaled it before we had any major mechanical
problems with it, but that tranny made me nervous! It was not at all like the
one in my sister's '85 Jetta auto. Now that one felt solid and actually made
the car go! The Audi's was soft and drove like a 3 speed golf cart.
The 4K 5-sp taught me to love the four rings. Well, I take that back. It all
started with the '81 5K Diesel 5-sp. Oh, the memories!
