Re: Coupe Quattro starting problem
Bentley manual indicates a few possibilities, but all are associated with a
fault
code. However, there is a catch-all phrase there, "If a complaint exists,
fault not recognized by self-diagnosis". The following are areas that could
give symptoms you mentioned:
1) IDLE STABILIZER VALVE: Short circuit to ground in (N 71) or between
(N 71) and (J 192) - "Engine might die when cold". Could also result in
engine speed out of spec at normal temps.
2) COOLANT TEMP SENSOR: Cold starting diffculties at low temp, also
poor idle and acceleration during warmup. manual sez moisture in connector
(G 62) could cause same effect.
3) AIR MASS SENSOR: Under certain circumstances, engine quits after
starting
Good luck!

A starting problem:
I own a 1991 Coupe Quattro with 32,000 miles. I am now having some
difficulty when I try to start my car in cool weather after it has sat
overnight.
Now when it is cool
and I try to start my car after it has sat overnight it will turn over
and start but then stall out. Its as if the car just gets enough fuel
to start, uses it all up then dies. The next time I try to start the
car its perfect, as if the first time primed the system.
