Re: Sheepish clothing, M3's, RX-7, Quattros, etc...
Why is it that when a "comparo" begins on this list, there is always an
"apples to oranges " story? Why do we insist on not honestly comparing
SIMILAR cars?
In this case, and correct me if I am wrong (as I'm sure you will!!), how has
an RX-7 gotten into the fray? My impression of most quattros are that they
are sport-sedans/coupes (excluding ur-q's and sport-q's, which are in a
different class!!), with legitimate back-seats that haul people to and from
the grocery store. Granted, they are awesome sport-sedans/coupes, but why
should they be compared to single-purpose built sports cars (i.e. RX-7,
Lotus, Porsche)?
I can understand a comparison to a 3-series, non-M-3 BMW, or a Volvo 850, or
Saab 900, since they are in about the same class/size/price category, but
personally, I am a bit tired of unfair, apples-to-oranges comparison.
Remember the thread about the A4 vs. the M-3? Was that fair? Come on.... it
should have been strictly A4 vs. 318/325 series, non M-3.
I am all for Audi being compared, but let's do it fairly and sensibly. I
simply believe that we should aim to comment on an "apples to apples" basis,
like a comparo of the A6 vs. Pontiac Bonneville vs. Oldsmobile Aurora vs.
Taurus SHO vs Volvo 850 vs. Saab 900 .... well, I think you can get the point.
I just had to throw in my nickel's worth (hoping that this post won't be
compared to a Charles Dickens classic!! :-) )
