I had the push - on/off / volume control go on the Bose in my old Maxima.  I can't tell you how to remove your unit, mine was screws.

I think a rebuilt head in my case was more like $400 USD.

I called the manufacturer of the head unit, in my case Clarion.  I ordered a new on/off / volume control for about $20 USD, & a manual for about $10 or $20 USD.  The shipping & handling was such that I chose to order the manual at the same time.

Buy some Chemwick to help with de - soldering the control.  It is braided copper like wick, like for an oil lamp.  Then solder in the new control.  Don't overheat when soldering in!
