I had the same problem (I think) on my 87 5000cst. it was not the coolant
level sensor, but the sensor mounted underneath the upper radiator hose
where it attaches to the head. I'm not sure what it's called. it has a
rubber cup underneath (protecting) it. I suspect what happened on mine was
that when wasing the engine compartment I got water in this cup and ruined
the sensor. You might try cleaning/drying the connector. this was discussed
on the list i believe last summer. I hope this helps.
