sounds like the best way.  start with a small drill, make sure it's centered
perfectly - those reamed hex socket heads should help!  This is what I would
try.

great idea, the welding might even break down some of the rust thats holding
them in.  Bet it works better in theory than in practice though.  You could
also weld one of your lug nuts to the stud.

What, and let a professional do it right?  Whatever you try, it'll be easier
with the hub indoors on a bench, in a vise, though.
