Re: Indecision... (NO AUDI CONTENT)

Oh yeah the infamous MB muscle car ... This brings back fond memories
-- I had exactly one of those beasts - a '71 even. V8, mechanically
injected. The engine meant for the 600 Limo, shoehorned into the 300.
Looked as the car the mayor's grandma would drive (good cop relations)
but it went 0..60 in less than 7 sec leaving a black smoke cloud in
its wake ... adjusting the injection was a royal pain ... Of course,
in comparison, Audi parts are cheap. The air suspension gave
incredible handling for such a monster not to speak of height
adjustability, but the valves (at $300 a pop in the early eighties)
would pretty soon leak ...

I sold it after one-too-many breakdowns (rainy day, start on pavement,
go over white plastic marking, huge torque, wheel-spin, back on
pavement, driving axle u-joint broken) to buy a car that would not
lead to a personal relationship with a mechanic ... (A maybe soulless
Acura Legend that in 105K+ miles has needed exactly one non-scheduled
repair -- a broken power antenna. But now I'm back into Audi and
again on a first name basis with the people at a nearby German car
shop :-)

The gentleman that bought the car from me made good use of the
humungous trunk and the grandma looks: he smuggled marijuana from
Mexico. For mysterious reasons he never re-registered the car and got
stopped after a car chase on a expired registration violation. I had
an interesting conversation with the sheriff department that tracked
the registration back to me...

So Jeffrey, if you ever buy a medium grey made-for-USA 71 6.3, with
sunroof and burgundy leather, a newish u-joint and maybe a strange
smelling trunk, say hello from me.

Thanks, - Andrei
