... that sounds like a great idea ... but do they disclose where the sat-
link is located in the car?  If the thief knows where that box ... or 
simply the antenna is, your acquaintance's intentions are foiled.  One 
thing that I learned early [i.e. after my first stereo was stolen] is 
that the thief will do whatever necessary to get the job done quickly 
... and has already displayed a total disregard for your personal pro-
perty by definition.  

Sat-links sound cool, and probably help a bit.  My personal solution is 
to get a silent alarm that notifies me when the car is being messed with.
I can discreetly see what is up and notify the authorities if necessary.  
Yes, this scheme doesn't work when I'm far away from my car, but the way 
I think about it I'm the only one that really cares anyway.  I wish folks 
like those at GM that dreamed up the sat-link would simply integrate a 
system like the one I have in the cars ...
