Problematic '84 4000S Quattro

Oh, I love this little black Quattro...but it does need some TLC.

I've had it for two months now.  Bought it over the internet
(classifieds2000) while I was working in Antarctica.  Just what I
wanted: black on black on black, BBS wheels, Dino steering wheel.  $1600
too.  My kind of euro-beater.

The brakes are demonic.  3 rebuilt master cylinders, 1 OEM, and still no
luck.  Any ideas.  It's losing no fluid.  Vexing.  I'm going to try a
new fluid resevior.

And the shifter: broke it off in my hand.  If anyone has an old one
laying about or knows of a carcus car, do tell. I want to keep this
light, fun to drive, otherwise straight car on the road.  Heck, if I
sort it out mechanically, I may even repaint it black again.
