Checking Out 5000CSTQ
Hi Everybody,
I'm going to look at an '87 5000CSTQ on Sunday. This is a one owner car
with 118K. The owner didn't do his own work, but has receipts from a from
a non-dealership mechanic. The car has the original steering rack and
accumulator. He replaced the timing belt, water pump, lifters and brakes
(whatever that means) at about 100K.
My questions are:
What's the quickest way to check the steering, suspension, and brake systems?
How do I check out the turbo? I remember reading that the boost should be
1.7 bar in 3rd gear. Is that right? How do I test the boost exactly? How
do I know if there are any leaks?
Should I do a compression test on the cylinders? If so, what should the
readings be on a warm engine? What exactly should I disconnect if I do?
What else should I look for besides the obvious such as windows, locks, ac,
and the things I can readily see?
Mostly I am worried about the turbo and its various components.
Thanks,
Charlie
