Re: removing large suspension bushings without a press (generic content)
We specialise in Volvos. The _proper_ Volvo tool makes this on the car job
pretty trivial.Without it,burn out the rubber centre, and use a hacksaw to
split the outer sleeve.Getting the new one in,is again trivial with the
correct tool.Otherwise make a mandrel on a lathe,to locate a step just
within the outer steel of the new bush. Then make a spacer to go between the
axle brackets,to share the thrust between them, otherwise they will just
bend. Then try and drive them in.
2 tips.Pay someone with the correct tool to do it next time. The labour
charge will be modest,as with the right gear,it doesn't take
long.Secodly, never use none OEM bushes, they just don't last.
Volvo are quite happy to supply all and any special tools to the public. Some
are surprisingly cheap. It's so long since we bought the void bush tool,I
can't say how much the kit would be.Probably not cheap enough for even a 3
off job,but if you have lots of Volvo owning colleagues... ?
