Electrical woes

Audi'ites,
I currently trying to source an electrical problem in my Quattro.  The other
day I noticed that the turn signal was blinking at double speed.  I
immediately suspected a bad bulb.  After replacing the bulb, I was unable to
get the turn signals to function at all.  In addition, I am constantly
shorting the hazard fuse and most of my instruments are dead.  
I have already checked the connections behind the dash but cannot seem to
find any problems there.  I'm wondering if the turn signal connector itself
may be at fault here.  Are the turn signal connectors prone to failure?  Has
anyone ever experienced similar problems with their Audi?  Any help would be
appreciated because I'm at the limit of my talent with electrical
troubleshooting and I would like to avoid a trip to the mechanic.
