I would want the laser detection. Then you know when or where you were
nailed, and be able to argue better, possibly make successful evasive
manuevers, or at the least you would be warned not to do anything worse
than you were caught doing (eg speed up and get yourself in deeper
trouble, all for not knowing you are a target). 

It's a slim chance that it's going to matter, but comforting to have a
little more of an edge. Every little bit helps, in my book.
