cold-start

I have an 1982 audi5000cs. (Audi 100 in Europe)
I have some troubble with the cold-start.
When the cold start is connected, the engine is hard to start.
When I unplugg the cold-start valve, it`s  relativly easy to start.( if 
I give it some trhottle.) This is not temprature related.
How does the cold-start worke. What is wrong with it
I hope someone could help me with this, because the winter is approching 
fast here in Norway and it could get below -20 celsius.
I realy need a cold-start that works.
