Buying Advice

Ok, I'm currently living in Japan but I will be returning to
Massachusetts in a few months, and I like to research, so I'm starting
now. I have only owned one Audi, a coupe Gt., which was nice but had
annoying electrical problems. I understand many of these electrical
gremlins were well taken care of in later years, particularly late 80's.
I have owned many VWs and I love them but want something nicer now that
I am all grown up ;^) . I convinced my mother to get rid of her 86 Monte
Carlo for an 88 5ks a few years back and she has had no trouble with it,
and loves the car (told her so). Actually, most of the bad reports on
Audis I have heard on this list, and frankly sometimes I get scared off,
and think maybe I should stay with VW (maybe a Corrado slc?). However I
have worked *real* hard over here to save enough money to build up a
nice nest egg. I have enough to pay what I consider a fair 15k or so in
cash for the car ( I hate loans, I'm paranoid).

My questions are regarding real world ownership of a nice quattro. I am
considering: 1991 200q (if I can find one), 1992+ 100q, 1990+ Coupe q,
or a 1993+ 90q (if I can find one below 15k). I heavily favor the 200 on
the power potential and dual purpose as a family sedan. I have heard
reports that the newer 100s's are more reliable, is this true? Forgive
my ignorance, but I want to be well prepared before I buy. I would
appreciate any advice - owner experiences.

Thanks a lot.
