To add to the wheel bearing comment, I had a problem once with my then new 88
80q which was the wheel bearing moving side to side causing a clunk as
described previously. I was told then that this is very common on all Audis
(this was in 1988) so you may want to check that too. Apparently there are
two fixes, one is new wheel bearing, the other (which this dealer did) is to
install a shim (don't ask ;-)...).
