Mach 1 on Land

'Hi everybody!'

I was thinking, with all the hubbub about the new land speed record..  What
will happen when a land vehicle hits mach 1?  I am thinking one of 2 things
could happen, 1) the car (or rocket with wheels) could 'outrun' the sonic
boom, or 2) The boom would hit the ground below it, and 'bounce' back up,
which could be very destructive.  For that reason, it seems that a longer
vehicle would have more risk of damage than a shorter one.  Well, if anyone
can answer my question, I'd appreciate it.
