Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this.  I think the 4000
is pretty much the same under the skin as my 82 VW Quantum.  I have
the same problem.  When I jack the car up, the strut/spring assy. drops
until it is caught by the big stepped washer on top.  I never could
figure out why but it never caused me much trouble.  If anyone knows,
I would like to know the answer too.

Probably burned out bulbs.  Remove instr. cluster to find them.
