Mike and Luis are absolutely right.
When they teach snow driving in Russia they explicitly tell you to
*forget about using brakes from November to April* and to never ever
brake in neutral, as not to negate the engine braking.
They may build mediocre econoboxes, but they_do_teach_well how to drive
in snow! Also a 3 mos driving course from an accredited school is
mandatory over there for anyone seeking a driving privilege.
Also, up until recently, automatics were unheard off and that alone
coupled with the roads turned into skating rinks for several mos per
year have been able to produce some very skilled drivers.
Just listen to the accent of one-half of NYC cabbies ;)
