I think that when it is obvious that one is trying to find stuff on their
own, even the crustier Qlisters will stop and help. :-)

Fuel, compression, spark. That is the basic trio.
If you don't have spark, you need to track that down. After that is
solved, then veyr seldom will a car refuse to run because the mixture is
wrong. It might run very poorly, but usually they run. Unfortunately,
the CIS mechanical fuel injection is the exception to this rule. Try
manually (ie, with your finger) raising the airflow meter while turning
over the engine (obviously, a 2-person job) and see if she fires up. If
so, then your mixture is not set right, and it is far enough off base
that it will prevent startup. I've seen this before.
