new A4 oil consumption (3K miles=1 qt)

Hello again fellow Q heads,
Not wanting to wait 5500 miles until my first oil change on the A4 T, i did it
myself this weekend with Mobil 1 and Mahle filter at 3000 miles.  Funny thing
was, the car seems to be burning oil like a retreating Iraq army.  Looks like
1 quart was burned in the first 3K miles....is that normal when an engine is
breaking in?  The used oil looked pretty good though, not to dirty or grimey.

what to you think?
