Sounds like it went into limp mode which is 3rd all the time(does it really
start out in 1st?). Have seen the multi -function swith be the culprit on
several occasions. Look to see if the display on the dash is messed up, a sure
sign. Sometimes its not the switch itself but moisture in the contacts at the
connection. Pull off the rubber boot and look. Located on the transmission
from underneath.
