Audi and AWD in endurance racing
Dave Eaton and I got in a little tiff about race results which led to some
research. The following is from the professional sportscar page:
"GTS-2 exclusively features unibody cars, two-wheel or four-wheel drive,
with turbocharged engines up to 4.0 liters and normally-aspirated engines up
to 8.0 liters. Eligible cars include Callaway Corvette, Ford Mustang,
Ferrari 550 Maranello."
Any list members who are racing junkies have any knowledge on why Audi
hasn't pursued this avenue of racing? The M3 is doing very well in GT3
against Porsche (AWD not allowed). With all this complaining about AWD
being banned elsewhere, it seems that endurance racing is custom made for
the quattro advantage. I would love to see the rings at 24hrs of Daytona
and Sebring, etc. I'm assuming Le Mans uses the same rules for their GT2
class. Just wondering.
