RE: non-audi jeep advice
I have to chime in here. I just went through the "jeep as a second car"
decision. I bought the Wrangler. It is a wonderful second vehicle, hands down.
I already have a car with a roof (91 200q). This thing is a riot - like
driving a farm implement. And as has been noted, chicks dig it. I mean
*really* dig it (mine's red, nice Hella rally lights, etc). The audi gets
occasional compliments. The jeep can't be driven unnoticed.
If you like mountainbiking, skiing, other outdoor sports etc., you will enjoy
the jeep. Driving it _is_ a sport of sorts. Of course it is obligatory to
travel with the roof removed. Tan face and windblown hair is a nice way to
start the day. No 4kq/CGT can even come close, sorry Ed. Diversity is key. I
think everyone should have one of these at some point. It's not expensive, and
resale is good. No reason not to have one, course I live in San Diego. And did
I mention that chicks dig it? I remember recently reading some automotive
publication where it was nominated "the coolest vehicle of 98", above the new
beetle (I had already bought it at that point).
Sure, it's not a perfect commutermobile in the logical sense, but at the
appeal of the Jeep is that it is exactly *not* the logical choice. Don't
bother rationalizing it unless it's for the psychological therapy that comes
from driving it. For all other occasions, drives along the coast, etc, it is
most excellent. Try one, if you're not too wrapped in pragmatic concerns and
hairdo's you'll love it. While I wouldn't recommend it in a lot of situations,
as a second car it is a breath of fresh air, and I mean lots of fresh air.
Frankly I wouldn't trade it for anything at the moment, certainly not anything
with a roof. Though a 911 cab might also be acceptable...
