RE: 4KQ questions.
For all the 4KQ owners out there, past and present, a few questions...
Present.
What is the amount and specification of diff and tranny fluids for the car?
Redline MTL for the transmission and I used 80 weight on the rear diff.
Capacities are a joke. The Bentley says either 4.5 or 7 pints in the
transmission. I never have used this for anything though and filled it to the
fill plug. This requires 2 fills since the center diff has no fill plug. You
fill the transmission up to the plug. Wait an hour or 2, fill it, and drive
the car for a few miles and re fill it. This assures you get some into the
rear diff. I checked mine after 50 miles and it just needed a squirt more.
The rear diff is easy. Just fill to the plug. Bentley says 4.6 pints. This
is really a joke. I don't think I got 1/2 of that in.
What is the largest 15" tire you can fit onto a 4K? Is it limited by the
bodywork
or suspension pieces, e.g. the front tie rod end?
It is limited by diameter, bodywork, and suspension pieces. You really cant
go much taller or you will rub in the back. To wide and you rub on the front
tie rod or rear wheel well. The wheel offset is very important. 7" wide
wheels should be a 35mm offset. 7.5" wheels should be between 40-43 mm. My
thought is you can probably fit a 215 45/15 on it with a little fender work in
the back. 205/50/15 should work but I have heard of problems with that unless
the offset is perfect.
