Officially, it's irreparable.  Unofficially, I once stripped the braid
out of a foot of so of TV antenna cable and folded it up to the right
cross section.  I seem to remember having to cut the old braid out of the
post on the field windings by cutting a slot down with a hacksaw.
Pretty heavy soldering job.  We ran the car for six or seven years after
that before selling it.
