Re: Illuminated window switches; repair

Just did these on the V8. You can get the lamps at Radio Shack, T2 5 volt
LEDs, red. I assume the 92 uses the same as the V8. If the assembly is the
same you have to take off the arm rest and remove the entire electronic unit
from there. Not a bad job. Mine requires 5mm allen wrench in 3 hidden holes
to get the rest off the door. Switches are a bear to get out of the mounts but
using two thin slot tipped screwdrivers can unsnap the switches. Disassemble
the switches with two or three small screwdrivers inserted behind the indented
points under the top edges-you'll see what I mean when you get them out. This
is probably the hardest part without damaging the switches. The rocker can be
popped out with small screwdriver inserted in each side of the hinge. Once you
have the switch disassembled remove the LED. New one is installed with the
ground on the side, I believe. LEDs have a polarity. The package tells you
which lead is ground & which is positive. Don't cut out the resistor as you
need that to cut the voltage from 12+ to 5V. If this is too much work then
new switches are usually in stock at dealers and they cost about $26 list. I
did two window switches in the driver's door, the mirror switch (two regular
bulbs in this one) and the LED in the roof switch in a couple of hours.
