I tend to disagree here. Most my passengers are intelligent, car-literate
people who understand that depending on the road conditions, the driver
sometimes has to divert all his attention to driving. They will stop
talking and don't expect reply from the driver when they see that there's a
difficult situation on the road. If they don't understand it, I don't
hesitate to be rude and just say "keep quiet, I'm driving the car". The
person on the phone will keep talking and demanding your attention even if
you are just desperately trying to avoid a head-on collision with an
18-wheeler.
